Over the last several years allegations of spousal or domestic violence (assaults and threats) have seen increased attention from authorities. Those accused of such offences – whether guilty or not – often face restrictive release conditions before trial and can face serious penalties if found guilty. Over the course of my 20 years of defence practice I have defended numerous individuals accused of domestic assault or threats.
Whether or not these allegations are proven true, many accused find themselves bound by disruptive release conditions that are not easily changed without assistance and representation. It can feel as though you are presumed guilty until proven otherwise. Since becoming a defence lawyer in 2003 I have successfully defended hundreds of individuals accused of domestic violence.
